Performance as an athlete has a lot to do with mindset. If we're riddled with self-doubt and don't have checkpoints in place to keep us on the right path, we will often fall victim to the internal agony sneaking in during our training and even on competition days. You know the feeling - you're approaching a big lift or new metcon, you're in the zone and ready to go, you grip the knurles on the bar and you feel the sweat dripping down your forehead, and suddenly you lose any and all confidence. You're overthinking, your breathing has changed, and now the weight in front of you is not manageable because the strongest muscle you must rely on, willpower is not even in the building.

Talk With Your Friends
Whenever you're experiencing self-doubt, talk with your friends about it. Find a good support system to help you to talk your way out of the self-doubt hole you've fallen into and gain back your confidence. Having friends and mentors you can trust is important to help you confront the challenges you may be facing, instead of trying to do it alone. So, go get some friends.
Verbally Compliment Yourself
It might seem a little meaningless doing this at first; nevertheless, it’s a crucial exercise to do when you want to overcome self-doubt. In the morning, when you’re in the bathroom, look at yourself in the mirror and compliment yourself. It could be something simple like, "I look good today." It doesn't matter so much about what it is; the point is to praise yourself. When you experience self-doubt, you are your worst enemy. If you can give yourself a compliment each and every day, everything else will fall into place.
Keep A Daily Journal
An ideal method to work on overcoming self-doubt and build your confidence is to create a daily journal. Throughout the day, write down all of the good things that you do. Write down all of your achievements, what you tried to accomplish, the good moments of your day, and how you can create more of those good moments. Each night before going to bed, take the list out and read it. Finish each day by reading the good and great things about yourself you wrote down and reflect on them. You'll likely wake up thinking good things about yourself.
Don't be a naysayer on your own accomplishments. Celebrate them! You are wonderful and you are beautiful. Appreciate yourself. You need to rejoice whenever you overcome your self-doubt and accomplish a task that you think was impossible. Small celebrations and wins will give you more inspiration to keep on going and overcome your self-doubt and fear.
Know Your Potentials
You know what you're capable of, and you know what you doubt. Get out you journal and write down every valuable quality that you possess. It doesn't matter If you're a great cook, have amazing typing skills, or if you're killer at your gymnastics movements. Whatever the good potentials you may have, write everything down. Write them down in "I" statements. Such as "I am a great mother." Use this list statement and read it in the morning to compliment yourself. This step is important in overcoming self-doubt as it will provide you with a list of your potentials.
Address the Real Problem
To overcome your struggle with self-doubt, you have to first recognize and confront that you have it. Sit down and think about it. Truly identify what it is you doubt about yourself. What precisely is it about yourself that you doubt? Are there any particular circumstances when you doubt yourself more than others? If yes, what are those circumstances? Write it down. This procedure will assist you to identify what you fear the most. It can be that you aren't confident in speaking about your capabilities or you doubt your specialized skills. When you know what the problem is, you can address it and work on it to help motivate yourself.
Connect with Others
While it’s important to reinforce your self-love muscles, it’s also important to get the support you need from other people, in different places. It can be from your Crossfit family or a professional coach or therapist. Getting encouragement and motivation from other people can make a huge difference.
Self-doubt is a very real internal problem which affects a large majority of people. But, the good news is that you can overcome it! The steps listed above might look simple.
